Exhibited Work: Air Kiss video installation
Duration: 24–28 October 2018
Event type: Festival
Curators: Alex Anikina, Luba Elliott, Yasemin Keskintepe
Organizer: European Commission
Venue: Utrecht, Netherlands
The Impakt Festival 2018 explored the intersection of technology, politics, and society, presenting works that critically examine how contemporary digital infrastructures shape our lives. Air Kiss by Egor Kraft was featured as part of this discourse, highlighting the entanglement of algorithmic systems with human perception, governance, and power.
The exhibition foregrounds how new technologies contribute to pressing global challenges: the fragmentation of public spheres, the rise of populism and authoritarianism, and a pervasive sense of instability and insecurity. Kraft’s installation reflects on the subtle mechanisms by which algorithmic superstructures influence thought, behavior, and collective values, raising questions about accountability, civic agency, and the preservation of democratic legitimacy in an increasingly mediated world. By presenting a speculative yet critically engaged perspective, the work encourages viewers to consider the ethical and political implications of emerging technological systems and their role in shaping the social and political landscape.
