In 2016 the theme for Art Prospect was Dialogue, and the festival turned the historic and socially diverse Admiralteysky district of St. Petersburg into a platform for discourse across communities—from students and long-time residents to immigrants and affluent families. Artists from Russia, the USA, Poland, Switzerland, Norway and Finland engaged with the question: how do generational, cultural and spatial differences shape conversation, identity and relation in an urban setting?
Within this context, Egor Kraft’s The Link installation posed a critical reflection on the construction of identity and the mediated self‑image in the digital era. By exploring the impulse to perfect one’s image for reproduction and circulation, Kraft situated his inquiry within the human impulse to be visible—both internally and externally—asking what happens when the drive for recognition becomes a form of commodification and self‑alienation.
