One & Infinite Chairs (2024) was presented at the 72nd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen as part of the programme Forensics of the Unreal.
The film revisits Joseph Kosuth’s seminal work One and Three Chairs, translating its semiotic framework into the logic of machine learning. By training a neural network on thousands of chair images, the project shifts from a finite system of representation to an open-ended, generative process. What emerges is a continuous flow of synthetic variations, where meaning is no longer stable but constantly renegotiated.
Presented within a programme examining the evidentiary status of images in the age of AI, the work reflects on how computational processes reshape perception, authorship, and the conditions under which images produce belief.
