Exhibited Work: New Now (Film and App)
Production: CYLAND MediaArtLab (St. Petersburg, Russia) in cooperation with The WYE (Berlin, Germany)
Curated by: Leah Stuhltrager
Venue Partners: Corferias in partnership with SOFA (Bogotá, Colombia); Made in NY Media Center (New York City, USA); TAIGA Art Center (St. Petersburg, Russia); Cine Tonalá (Mexico City, Mexico)
The Digital Media Program of CYFEST 10 presented a curated selection of short-format works by established and emerging artists engaging with the shifting conditions of digital temporality, perception, and authorship. The program explored a broad range of screen-based media — from virtual environments and generative systems to performance, gaming, and algorithmic cinema — reflecting on the aesthetic and cultural implications of technological mediation in contemporary art.
Among the works featured was New Now App (2016) by Egor Kraft in collaboration with Alexander Letsius (Russia). The piece consists of an application that continuously generates an infinite textual loop reading, “…This very moment has already become the past.” The work functions as a minimalist temporal machine, a recursive reflection on presence and transience within the accelerated temporality of the digital age. By reducing experience to a self-erasing utterance, Kraft and Letsius foreground the paradox of the digital present — simultaneously immediate and already obsolete — while questioning the possibility of awareness within perpetual technological distraction.
