Each video takes inspiration from the paintings and sculptures of great artists from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Contemporary video works by internationally renowned artists reference aspects central to classical art, such as composition, colour, light, and visual language. By incorporating “time” and “movement”, these traditional ideas are brought to life in new ways.
In Time Travellers, time is accelerated, slowed down, or frozen. The 21st-century videos are not only a tribute to the ideas and iconography of classical masterpieces but also harness new digital techniques to tell compelling stories and address contemporary issues.
This guide makes navigating the artworks easy. Time Travellers offers a unique evening stroll past videos that relate both to the renowned TEFAF Maastricht, the prestigious fine art trade fair, and to the many 17th and 18th-century national monuments on the Rechtstraat.
