Duration: 28.11.2018-17.02.2019
Event type: Group show
Curator: Dmitry Bulatov
Organizer: PERMM
Venue: PERMM , Perm, Russia
Presented within the famework of “THE NEW STATE OF THE LIVING” exhibition are artworks by Russian and international authors specializing in the field of contemporary technological art. The distinguishing characteristic of these works is a synthesis of artistic disciplines and scientific and technical developments. In this project, art presents itself before us a holistic creative practice which, alongside the utilization of the newest 21st century means – robotics, informational technologies and biomedicine – contains a not insignificant portion of “unscientific” elements: intuitions, metaphors and assumptions.
All the pieces that are included here as points of departure for conceptualization and figuration utilize the principles of fusing the “natural” and the “technological”, and they muster up in the exhibition into a play of interrelationships in which autonomy and creativity are not regarded to be attributes of only the human. The artists describe this complex of emerging in time, partially intersecting human and technical objects, by using such metaphors as “the flow of becoming” and the universal “vital impulse” – locating in these the elements of the new state of the living. The purpose of this project is to illustrate the kinds of work that artists undertake in their search for the means to “capture” this emerging novelty – work that is no less significant than that which is done for us by science and technology, history and philosophy of art.
