What does it mean to own a work of video data?
What you see in museums and galleries isn't everything when it comes to artworks. In fact, video and data-based works often come with a 'different body' that includes certificates, instructions, physical media containing master data, and boxes to house them, which are not typically displayed.
In this exhibition, we have focused on what is commonly known as the "EDITION BOX," which has been garnering attention as a new realm of artistic expression. We will showcase the works of 11 artists from both domestic and international backgrounds, along with their respective 'boxes.' The choice of materials and media, the shapes and designs, the modes of distribution, and the content of the instructions inside these 'boxes,' which usually remain hidden, often reflect the artist's attitude and concept more vividly than the artworks themselves. This is a unique opportunity to engage with the works under different rules than those of a typical museum setting. I would be delighted if not only those interested in the artwork, but also artists and collectors could attend as a place for information sharing.
Participating Artists:
Yu Araki, EGOR KRAFT, Shu Isaka, Eiki Okuda, Ai Ozaki, Kyun-Chome, Wataru Koyama, Kouta Takeuchi, Rieko Tsuji, Yousuke Nakagawa, Masahiro Wada
Guest Curation: Yousuke Nakagawa
