Duration: 27–30 September 2018
Event type: Solo booth
Organizer: Anna Nova Gallery
Venue: Vienna Contemporary, Vienna, Austria
The booth presented a focused selection from the Content Aware Studies Series, including Hellenistic and classical-inspired works such as CAS_V04 Hellenistic Portrait, CAS_08 Hellenistic Ruler, CAS_09 Colossal Head of Hercules, CAS_10 Telephos Drapery, CAS_11 Androgynous Portrait, and URL Stone. The series investigates the potential of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to reconstruct, reinterpret, and generate lost antique friezes and sculptures through algorithmic analysis of 3D scans of historical artifacts. By positioning computational processes as tools of semi-archaeological and quasi-historical knowledge production, the works explore how automation and data-driven methods can create new interpretations of cultural heritage, blending classical aesthetics with contemporary technological approaches.
The presentation at Vienna Contemporary highlighted the dialogue between past and present, offering a curatorial reflection on the intersection of art, archaeology, and algorithmic cognition.
